The organization is committed to empowering individuals and strengthening communities through advocacy, education, and support.

Position Summary

The Bilingual Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Victim Advocate provides trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, and support services to survivors and their families. This position delivers short-term crisis counseling, safety planning, legal and systems advocacy, and resource coordination. Services are provided in both English and Spanish through in-person and telephone interactions.

Reports To: Tu Casa Program Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and their dependents.
  • Conduct follow-up contact within 24 hours for individuals who received after-hours services.
  • Offer accompaniment to court, hospital, and law enforcement appointments as needed.
  • Educate clients on protection orders and assist with filing and modifications.
  • Provide interpretation and translation services in English and Spanish.
  • Assist in developing Spanish-language materials and culturally responsive services.
  • Support grant deliverables and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to confidentiality standards.
  • Coordinate emergency transportation for clients when necessary.
  • Collaborate with community partners (e.g., social services, law enforcement, and other agencies).
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team coordination to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Assist with hotline operations, including coverage, training, and documentation.
  • Conduct outreach and build relationships within Spanish-speaking and migrant communities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records in data tracking systems.
  • Completed ongoing professional development including, participating in relevant community meetings and professional training.
  • Collaborate with other staff to create, facilitate, and coordinate community outreach events.
  • Support organizational needs, including facility care, fundraising events, and provide help to assure Tu Casa’s ongoing viability.
  • Complete any other task as delegated by leadership or the Executive Director. Complete additional duties as assigned by leadership or the Executive Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field; OR
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with at least three (3) years of experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault dynamics
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with migrant and monolingual Spanish-speaking communities
  • Familiarity with community-based advocacy and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Experience conducting outreach and presentations in both English and Spanish

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and current automobile insurance
  • Ability to travel throughout the San Luis Valley and surrounding communities
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts (24-hour hotline coverage 3–6 times per month)

Training Requirements

  • Completion of:
    • 15 hours of domestic violence training
    • 30 hours of sexual assault training
    • Crime Victim Rights and Compensation training
  • Annual completion of Crime Victims’ Rights and Compensation training
  • Ongoing professional development (minimum of 8 hours per year)
